In this time, Yogyakarta State University (UNY) has two phenomena that connected with planning on the move toward world Class University. First, UNY have obligation to support the government regulation to develop SBI / RSBI. Because of that, UNY have to plan the move toward world Class University. Second, in fact UNY still far from the good class university in the world. As we know, there is perception that if we want to be world class university, we must have good grade in the world.
Prof . Sugeng Mardiyono, Ph. D almarhum (2008) said that to be world class university is not about “internalization”. He also said “in the process to clear a way world class university, we must not lose our identity. We should use our ability and we must adjust it with our culture.”
In the case of moving toward world Class University, in fact there are many good conditions. We can say that UNY is already become an independent institution because UNY is already trusted to attend the first accreditation for institution. Many of work unit of UNY also already have ISO 9001:2001 certificate. In the case of cooperation, UNY already have a good relation with many stakeholders. UNY build the cooperation with interior institution and also with abroad institution.
The main goal that must reached if the university involved in international interaction is how to be responsible to prepare their graduates so they are ready to cross their life in this modern time.
For the students, the path toward world class university will help them to understand and implemented the global perspective that have contribution for their ability to cross their international association. While, for the lecturer this path will give more wide chance to doing international research and publish it to international. Besides that, the lecturer can build their international knowledge community.
Garlick, S dan Priyor, G (2004) said that there are at least 5 (five) step how the university develop their fact condition, agreement in the development strategy, commitment to doing strategy, monitoring the progress for the better condition.
Long term purpose of this effort is making UNY to be world Class University and get good grade in the world. This purpose can be reached if UNY can reach this component bellow:
a. get international accreditation for studying program
b. has international standard for curriculum
c. can achieve international standard for learning process
d. can achieve international standard for evaluation result
e. has international standard learning material and learning source
f. can achieve lecturer quality and have international standard for being lecturer
g. has educational employer that can support WCU
h. has facilitation that can support WCU, and so on.
To support UNY move toward world class university program, UNY already have to clear away to international studying program with English language in every learning activities. to support it UNY also performing English development innovation program and preparing international class program. Besides that, UNY also ready publish scouts book with English language, that contain UNY’s purpose, development toward WCU blue print, and also 5 years program and year program. And also UNY already publish many books that suppot international class program.
